Q3 Results fuel Heavy Trading for Top Nasdaq Stock Capstone

Capstone Turbine Corp. (NASDAQ: CPST) shares are soaring in today�s trading after the company announced its third-quarter fiscal 2011 financial results.

Capstone reported third-quarter fiscal 2011 revenue of $24.2 million, representing an increase of 51% over the third quarter of fiscal 2010. The company shipped 171 units in the third quarter, up from 122 units reported in the same period in fiscal 2010. The company�s average revenue per unit for the third quarter was $110,000, compared with $103,000 reported during the third quarter of fiscal 2010.

Capstone reported a backlog of $84.7 million at the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2011, up 8% over the same period in fiscal 2010. The company�s gross margin for the third quarter of fiscal 2011 was 4%.

Capstone�s research and development expenses fell 30% to $1.4 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2011. Capstone reported a net loss of $8.1 million, or $0.03 per share for the third quarter of fiscal 2011, compared with a net loss of $7.2 million, or $0.04 per share reported for the same period in fiscal 2010.

Capstone ended the third quarter of fiscal 2011 with cash and cash equivalents of $30 million.

Following the announcement of third-quarter fiscal 2011 financial results, Capstone shares soared in today�s trading. The small cap stock reached a 52-week high of $1.52 in mid-day trading, and at last check, it was up 7.25% to $1.48, with volume up from daily average of 3.50 million to 14.77 million.

Capstone shares have a 52-week range of $0.62-$1.52. The stock is currently trading above its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. In the last one year, Capstone shares gained 33.93%.
