Quest Integrity Group, a business group of Team Inc. (TISI), recently introduced a new animation specifically designed to inspect and access buried or inaccessible piping in nuclear facilities. The animation will use ultrasonic-based intelligent pigging technology named HYDRA.
HYDRA has unique features which facilitate inspection of nuclear pipes buried inside or even under concrete structures. Its condensed lightweight feature allows it to be easily transported into and around a plant. Additionally, its bi-directional feature requires the animation to be launched from a single location.
With such innovative features, the tool can easily navigate through complex piping circuits for inspecting the exterior and interior surface. HYDRA can also record damages like pitting, corrosion or erosion and hidden deformations such as denting, ovality, swelling or bulging on the wall.
The product is expected to offer a cost-effective in-line inspection of inaccessible pipes, assisting nuclear plant managers to comply with regulatory requirements for inspection. In addition, HYDRA technology ensures piping integrity and minimizes operational and safety risks.
