Is an AMR-US Airways Marriage in the Cards?

U.S. Airways has been stood up at the altar before, after attempting a merger with United a few years ago, and failing in its hostile bid for Delta. But, perhaps the third time’s a charm. American Airlines parent company AMR (AMR), which just filed for bankruptcy today, could be the partner that US Airways always dreamed about, Bloomberg notes in a article today quoting a few analysts. Partnering up could reduce costs for both airlines.

Other airlines have merged and bought each other out in recent years — United and Continental completed a merger last year and Delta (DAL) bought Northwest in 2008. After the deals, American Airlines fell to the third biggest airline from first.
