BP Oil Hits Land in Louisiana

As if there wasn’t enough to deal with, Reuters this afternoon reports the first bits of crude in the BP (BP) spill in the Gulf of Mexico has hit land, washing up on Freemason Island in the Chandeleur string of island on the Louisiana coast.

We have teams that have confirmed oil on the beach,” Coast Guard Petty Officer Connie Terrell told Reuters from the Unified Command operation in Robert, Louisiana.

“It’s largely just sheen. There is no evidence of medium or heavy oil,” she said.
