Herewith, the first of a roundup of “outlook” pieces everyone puts out this time of the year. First off, the Financial Times’s “Lex” column looks back at the decade that was 2010 to 2019, and finds the population has — Gulp! — lost its infatuation with stock trading, instead focused on stashing money under the mattress. The S&P in 2019 trades at the same level as 2009, emerging markets cratered on the collapse of U.S. buying, and Japan’s stock market staged a stunning rebound after 20 years of desultory results.
Tongue in cheek, but then so are most of these kinds of outlook articles!
